Sonic Transmission Artist Exchange Program
Facilitating field research, and putting Hong Kong sound artists on the map.
About the program
Sonic Transmission is an artist exchange program, with the goal of exposing the works of the best of Hong Kong’s sound artists to the wider Chinese sound art community. In collaboration with organizations that share our commitment to further the discourse of sound, we feature our city’s artists in performances or featured exhibitions outside of Hong Kong.
The program started in September 2012 as a pilot bilateral exchange project, in which CMHK presented Hong Kong artists at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, and in exchange CMHK received 5 Shanghai-based artists that had been nominated by BM Space.
In the 2015, in collaboration with new partner organizations, we expanded our reach to festivals, galleries and sound organisations in Taipei, Shanghai, and Beijing. Since the 2016 – 2017 funding cycle, CMHK had adopted a new exchange framework under which the selected exchange artists may propose an overseas field-research project instead of a public concert or presentation.
How to apply
Application to the current cycle of exchange program is now closed. We typically call for applicants in September and October each year, for exchange projects in the following spring and summer. Applicants are reviewed by an independent, external reviewer. Please watch this space for future call for applications.
